BIOGRAPHY

All About Matthew McKinney

Originally hailing from California, I moved to Dallas Ten years ago with my wife Traci and my two children James and Violet.

I was the technical director for the Tony award winning regional theater Dallas Theater Center (LORT B/C) where I oversaw an annual budget of over $250,000 for three different venues.  Before that I was the technical director for the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival (LORT C) and the University of Nevada, Reno.  While working with all of these organizations I have built, loaded in, and managed many large scale productions with Broadway designers and directors.  I have experience managing large crews including every skill level from IATSE stage hands to student employees.  I enjoy my job and I am committed to producing quality work and developing positive working relationships with my colleagues.

While working professionally I have also been teaching for the past ten years.  I have developed my own courses in: AutoCAD for the theatre, Technical Theatre I, Technical Theatre II, Scene Design, and various independent studies.  I have also organized and taught in several professional development courses for students and professionals.  I have a wonderful rapport with my students and love to teach willing minds.

I also bring a great deal of experience in automation, everything from stage winches to pneumatic and hydraulic systems.  I have set up automation packages for both the Dallas Theater Center and the University of Nevada, Reno.  I also have extensive experience in carpentry, welding, rigging, and scene design.  I have also had several articles published for my research and innovations in technical theatre.

I love everything about theatre, it is in my blood and I can't think of a more fulfilling career than this.
